Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty has strongly reacted to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remark about the Mahakumbh, stating that her claims are incorrect. He asserted that 700 million people participated in the Triveni Sangam and took the holy dip, which proves the immense influence of Sanatan Dharma.
“What she is saying is wrong. 700 million people have come here and taken the holy dip— is this false?... People have witnessed the power of Sanatan Dharma,” Mithun said. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee had earlier stated on Tuesday that the claim of Mahakumbh occurring after 144 years is false.
“Mahakumbh will happen after 144 years— this is not true. If I am wrong, correct me. To my knowledge, the arrangement for ‘Punya Snan’ (holy dip) happens every year. In fact, we organize the Gangasagar Mela, so I am aware of the holy dip,” she said. Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee had stated that while she respects Mahakumbh, today it has become a “Mrityu Kumbh.”
“This is a ‘Mrityu Kumbh.’ I respect Mahakumbh, I respect the holy Ganga Maa. But there is no proper planning. How many people have been rescued?” she questioned. On Tuesday, the West Bengal CM clarified her comment on Mahakumbh, stating that she was referring to the event’s preparations. She added that without proper planning, people would suffer.
